Abba Care Assisted Living opened in 2003 after its founder, a home health nurse, observed that large assisted living facilities often failed to improve residents' health or quality of life despite regular nursing visits. The facility was designed around a small resident-to-staff ratio: short hallways instead of long corridors, an open kitchen instead of a closed cafeteria, and individual laundry service to prevent mix-ups. Meals are prepared fresh daily in the open kitchen.
Staff assist with bathing, housekeeping, and medication administration on individualized schedules. The community coordinates care between residents, their families, and outside providers like doctors and hospice. Activities and events are organized to foster connections among residents, and the facility partners with local Garland volunteers to bring outside engagement into the community.
