Eastern Nebraska Veterans' Home sits on 20 acres near 40th Street and Capehart Road in Bellevue. It replaced the Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans' Home in Omaha, which operated since 1980 in a converted hospital building. The new facility has 120 beds across nearly 118,000 square feet divided into four wings, each serving 30 residents in one care level: assisted living, intermediate care, skilled care, or memory care for Alzheimer's disease.
Each wing has its own exterior courtyard with features tailored to different mobility needs. The site was donated by the City of Bellevue, and Sarpy County contributed $300,000 toward the access road.
It offers independent living communities, assisted living facilities, memory care units, skilled nursing facilities, continuing care retirement communities, respite care services, adult day care centers, life plan communities, affordable senior housing, and veterans' assisted living.
