South Port Square is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) on a 40-acre campus in the Port Charlotte area, near Punta Gorda. It offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing on one location, so residents can age in place without relocating if care needs increase.
Independent living residents have access to studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, private lanais (on select floor plans), and ample storage. Basic utilities and maintenance are included. The community is pet-friendly. Housekeeping and lawn maintenance are handled by staff.
On-campus activities include water volleyball, art and acrylic painting classes, fitness classes, foreign language instruction, coffee socials, live music and concerts, and themed social events. Residents can also venture off-campus to downtown Port Charlotte or the historic Punta Gorda area for shopping and dining.
Assisted living provides support with daily activities such as medication management and dressing. Memory care, branded as Clare Bridge, uses a person-centered approach to help residents with Alzheimer's disease and dementia maintain a sense of purpose and identity.
Skilled nursing care is available for short-term recovery (such as post-surgery rehabilitation) or longer-term needs. Staff are on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
South Port Square offers two payment models. Under the rental option, residents pay a monthly fee based on their care level and services, with no upfront buy-in. Under the Life Care option, residents pay an upfront buy-in fee (which varies by floor plan and care level) plus a monthly service fee. The Life Care program includes a care-for-life guarantee, meaning the community commits to providing care even if a resident's financial resources are depleted, subject to the terms of the residency contract.

Actually, even though it wasn't as resortish as the other facility that I visited I would probably prefer this one.

We sleep here two nights and so far everybody is very helpful and friendly.

We had been there a couple of times, there was nobody who answered the door for a while and a couple times, it took a while for me to get out of there because there was no one to let us out the door.

They're great people! Evidently, the people who run it are also great! I have a bedroom, a living room and a little kitchen.

There are little ice cream shops around in there, and if you lived in a distant building, you would have to have a little cart to take you to their ice cream shop.

It is the most exclusive, the most expensive care facility in that area, so I just expected a lot more from them.
