Vi at La Jolla Village is a Life Plan Community (Continuing Care Retirement Community) in San Diego's Golden Triangle neighborhood. The community includes independent living, assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing on-site, with a continuum of care model where residents can age in place without monthly fee increases for care level changes (aside from community-wide increases).
Amenities include three dining venues with table service, a 24-hour staffed front desk, scheduled transportation, valet parking, a fitness center with classes, spa and salon services, a heated indoor pool, and a private theater. Housekeeping and linen services are included weekly. A registered nurse staffs the wellness center weekdays for health consultations.

You can practically walk there to the shopping malls across the street, where there are movie theaters, bookstores, and lots of things.

Your monthly rate does not go up; although they have a buy-in fee, and if my friend puts enough down, she gets a major portion of it -- about 80% back -- if one way or the other she leaves.
